Your assumption would be correct. I am indeed already running 10.04, the two are now challengers.

So I take it by all of the lame windows 7 TUT's that you actually wiped a linux install in favor of Windows 7?
For shame boy, for shame.

Trolls are the last thing you need to be concerned with.

:dno A packet appears on the network once more.

I have indeed wiped my dual XP and 'buntu install for the shame of Windows 7. Unfortunately, In my line of work I'm not working with Linux, it's very much Windows to the core.

If it's any consolation, It is what it is, and that's... I miss the days where I would build a working machine from two or three and then start playing, installing, configuring. I'm even scraping my old 2in1PC mod in favour of a flashy new server.

What the fuck is happening?

Looks like you are growing up and putting your toys down because life is getting in the way. What kind of work are you doing and are you working for yourself or are you lining someone else's pocket for peanuts?

*bear in mind the question is not an attack as everyone has to start somewhere and merely betrays my attitude on jobs.

Pack3t has been:quiet.... I know the forum lacks that certain hard kick in the jaw if I am not active.

Judging on your studies(which you always seem to make TUT fodder for EVERYTHING you ever learn) I would say you have been pressured to use Windows because you still don't know it well enough yet. Majority of people will say because they use Windows they know it but in fact most don't have a shade of a clue what is really making it all tick in the background. For you realizing that and doing something about it, good for you. If you are going through all the trouble of putting 7 on there you WILL fuck it up, it is only a matter of time between your tinkering, porn site visits, the inherent instability of Microsoft OS's over time and fate. Perhaps you will finally become a master troubleshooter and quit ducking out early on a BSOD :whistle.

I have recommended the book to others but read Windows Internals by Mark Russinovich. It is the end all be all. Also learn to use the sysinternals suite written by the same name. If you are running/supporting a Windows based network it is an invaluable tool to save you time.

Not having a linux box is still crazy. No network admin should be without *nix. If you ever find yourself in a position that YOU get to make any decisions you might want to remember that. Good luck with whatever it is you are pursuing regardless.

I'm working as an "IT Technician", more so down the IT support route, Indeed lining someone else's pockets. I wanted to start working years ago, and came up with Manchester Compute, before this forum existed, yet I found age to be a hindrance. The light is still at the end of the tunnel and it's shining, it's always been the corner of my eye, never lose sight of the goal. Every new thing is a challenge, and a challenge conquered at that, It's all experience. Valuable experience.

Don't worry about voicing anything, I don't take personal attacks, I've known Meatloaf for many years, others have noticed his jokingly attitude, I know he jokes. I've known yourself for some time, no where near as long but I can assure myself you don't go around attacking people.

That sir is quite true, It's funny how much I refer back to things I've done a year or so ago. It's not that I forget it's more of a quick reminder. It's also out there now for other people to look at and to learn from, adapt and progress further. I know XP a lot better than I do Windows 7 yet I have two enterprise level qualifications for the thing, go figure..
Haha! When my main machine is out of action Mark becomes disgruntled.

Pack3t, I believe this is more of a warning than a statement for one to think I don't run a *nix box any more. I have many a machine. Yet another sign things are changing, their numbers are dropping drastically.

I did that for a while. I can't even remember why. But I remember feeling like switching back was the best decision of my life.
I do agree having some of the small tut threads are useful. I myself have referred back to the Close, Minimize, Maximize thread several times now. I know the information is available everywhere, but I always have mcompute open. It's always 2 clicks away.
