It depends, If I need a cheap part I use Droid Recycling (Ebay seller), because I know they're kosher. Then again I bought an XPS M1730 from Ebay, dropped it 4ft onto carpeted floor and it killed it.

It was supposedly new, that's the problem. I looked at the motherboard after the drop and there was a 20mm crack in the GPU. a 4ft drop doesn't cause that (might have made it worse though)
