I have to say I love both, GT2 is my favourite racing game of all time (I've never had 3, 4, or either of the Prologue games) but I like the fun of Need For Speed games like Carbon

GT is all track racing and the cars are as slow as anything.

Though it's realistic, you can get second hand cars and do them up (which I loved about the original)
