Malware programs now encrypting files?

Seen a few things regarding Cryptolocker and Decrypt Protect which apparently once on your machine encrypt all of your files including those stored on a network drive.

A lot of people have been paying $100-$300 to the creators to get their files back. I've not yet seen in the wild, what's your thoughts?
