How to change the system drive letter (CSmile

This is a tutorial on how to change your systems drive letter. In this example we will be renaming the C:\ drive.

I have only tried this in Windows XP.

Steps

Make sure you're logged in with an Administrator account!

1) Start > Run > Regedit
2) Navigate to the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
3) On the right hand side, find the drive letter you want to change. It looks like \DosDevices\C:
4) Right-click \DosDevices\C: and then click Rename.
5) Rename it to an unused drive letter such as \DosDevices\Z:
6) Reboot

Job done.
