You can't scan anything if it won't boot up.

Whats your answer to that? Tongue

I know I'm grave digging this post, but

Take the hard drive out and plug it into another computer(you will need a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter) and scan it there. Or..

Boot into any live cd and see if the drive can be read- I prefer to use puppy linux or ubuntu for this and send the data over the network with samba. Both of these mount drives automatically.

Boot with ubd4win and run chkdsk and scan for virii etc- restoring the registry from here might fix it too(if window tries to boot without the security file, it will rebuild one) Smile

Then boot with ubcd, run ranish, and verify the IPL is set to standard(this rids you of boot sector virii) oops and run free fdisk to see if the partitions are in good shape

Then do a repair install of vista

I wouldn't call it grave digging. This isn't exactly an old thread :tongue.
I don't understand why it fails to boot up at all. Are you not seeing the BIOS or something?

RE: Computer problems\Windows(maybe hardrive) error? - Mark - 10-11-2010

I think he can get to the BIOS but an soon as the OS starts it blue screens, sounds like a file or service is missing / not starting.

edit: can you get in to safe mode? If so you can run windows tools such as SFC and chkdsk.

RE: Computer problems\Windows(maybe hardrive) error? - Special Chris - 10-11-2010

Exactly what Mark says is true. And no I can't get into safe mode.

I should be getting the laptop back today, if not tomorrow. And dads already ordered a HD for it so it looks like I'll be ripping it out, then putting a new one in, then putting XP and using it probably just for music. And light web browsing.

I'm also prolly gonna spray paint that bitch, so anyone got any ideas?

On the spray paint?

Pink. With Green flames. Must be pink

That would make it match WARLORDTF's iPod. See it here:

The top part of its already pink, so all I need is some stencils and there are the flames.

But something NON-Flamin' please.

RE: Computer problems\Windows(maybe hardrive) error? - Mark - 11-11-2010

Black / grey and orange with a certain logo. :roll

RE: Computer problems\Windows(maybe hardrive) error? - Special Chris - 11-11-2010

A certian logo might be hard to make, but anything is possible I suppose.
