New 3TB Western digital "passport drive" [USB 3.0]

Western Digital, (WD), have just announced a new single 3TB drive.

The newest addition, the My Book Essential not only houses a single 3TB drive, but also has a USB 3.0 port on the rear. The design is standard rounded black shell that you've come to know and love / hate. It's also been known that the previous My Passport Essential and My Passport Essential SE lines are being upgraded to USB 3.0 - both of the models being powered entirely over USB.

Pricing for the upgraded models is ranging from $99 for a 500GB drive and then anything up to $250.

It is nice that they are moving up to USB 3.0, but there still aren't any mechanical HDD's on the market that can even come close to reading or writing at the speed that the USB 3.0 has the capability of doing. On a side note a 3TB external hard drive is pretty cool :thumbs
