Hipster jokes at the ready...
#1
I haven't made a post in a while, so I'm posting this to make up for it... Anyway, I acquired a bike a while ago for not a lot of money (£11.10 train fare to pick it up, God bless Freecycle) to use as the spare bike in case mine goes wrong.

Say hello to the victim

Well anyway, since then I've been looking at converting it into a fixed gear bike (I know, hipster jokes at the ready) BUT there is a good reason for it. There's very little to go wrong with a fixie; the gears can't go wrong (because there are no gears), if the front brake fails you just pedal slower (I'm only having a front brake). I can't really afford for both of my bikes to go wrong at the same time, as they're my only form of transport and I must cover 10 miles per day just for work.

Now, being the hamfisted git I am (Look at previous projects to see evidence of this) I've left the important part to my local bike shop, they're currently taking off the derailleur, both brakes, the front mech, replacing the rusty steel wheels with new, alloy wheels and putting new tyres and innertubes on, so to leave me with just the bare essentials. (which it will work as a fixie at the moment, but we mightaswell make it look presentable).

Slightly off topic: My laptop's on it's last legs, I can't see it lasting the summer, so I'll be posting some more hardware related threads soonish to make up for my bike-biased posts of late.

Man i love cycling too, it's such a short ride to work though for me only ten minutes max so i got all the gears on my bike racheted up to maximum to give me a little more of a workout.

So yea i don't really use the gears much ether but once in a blue moon i like to bike into town witch is a little farther away and in that situation i like to use the gears to make it a little easier for myself.

P.S. my back brake is broken too!!!!!!! lol

I'm not using that seat, one of the things I'm changing (well, two) are the saddle and seatpost.

I was replying to Mark, that seat isn't the comfiest in the world (as I'm guessing he knows that, hence the comment)

This is the one I'm using (specifically the white one on the left). It's incredibly comfortable and it's called the Charge Spoon (So yes, every time I use my bike I'm getting spooned*)

*Yes, the Chargebikes saddles are based on cutlery... But I'd prefer to get spooned than knifed or forked Smile.

Dude, only Meatloaf could find a seat that resembles cock and balls. Long live the legend.

Trolls are the last thing you need to be concerned with.

Just received the specialist brake levers and bar tape from http://www.highonbikes.com after ordering them on Friday (and, considering we've had a bank holiday weekend, that's some damn quick postage) I realise that most of the forum won't be interested in the store, but there are other bits (like weatherproof clothing) that some may be interested in.

Also received the seatpost, hopefully I'll have the remainder by tomorrow (at which point pictures will be posted) Smile

Remember to put the seat on the post before sitting on it.
