Last I checked Threatfire was more of a firewall than much. Also, you don't really need much of a firewall other than the default one in your OS.
Must have security programs

Honestly, I have no idea. I'd think they do, I mean, even Linux distros have firewalls.

I've added GMER and TDSSKiller to the list, both can be used to help the removal of rootkits. Send these guys in as a near to last operation, after mbam and an AV scan.

I once had a rootkit that updated it self so quickly kaspersky's tdsskiller didn't get rid of it. Just ended up reformatting

Reformatting doesn't remove a rootkit..
