Heya all, I've decided to make a Gauss gun. It's relatively simple, and the mechanics of it are also fairly simple.

What I'll need are:
  • Neodymium magnets
  • Steel Ball Bearings
  • A plastic channel

Basically, this video might explain it. If not, Google it

Deifintion: Gauss guns use solenoids to propel a ferrous projectile

This should be my final product Big Grin
il warn you now, ive used neodymium magnets and they are absolute bitches cause they cause so much damage to everything XD
I had a few lying around, dunno where they went.

I would rubber coat the balls, but that'll take away most of the kinetic energy on impact and therefore they won't travel. I guess I'll take the risk of exploding bearings
you have to remember that its not going to shift the force that much you lose 30% of the initial acceleration
And what happens if we lose more due to the rubber coat?

Exactly.
all im saying is you are not going to get particularly interesting results unless you have big magnets and big balls
Big balls. Eheheheheheheheh.

Nah, I'm using a big supply like in the double Gaussian gun
Looks like a nice project and like it could do some damage. :thumbs
show us what it can do when its done id like to see that! :thumbs
If I can get hold of some Neodymium magnets I'll make a rapid fire version Smile
