Sage Accounts COMPANY file location / path and it's purpose

The Sage Accounts COMPANY file is used to tell sage where the company data is located.

The COMPANY file does not have a file extension and can be found in the following locations on client machines.

Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sage\Accounts\2012

Windows Vista / Windows 7
C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2012

In your organisation the Sage data should be stored on a server then the location edited in to the COMPANY file for each client. This keeps the data centralised and current.

For Sage typically the data is mapped so the S drive on clients. An example of the path could be: S:\ \\SERVERNAME\Sage

Within that directory there could be multiple company data folders and are named as, COMPANY.000 COMPANY.001 etc.

An example of a COMPANY file is below and can be edited with notepad.

Code:
S:\SAGE\COMPANY.001
S:\SAGE\COMPANY.002

When you now open up Sage Accounts on the client it will prompt you to open either of those two companies..

Map the S drive through a GPO linked to a security group and you're good to go.
